2008 Martin Codax Albarino

Today we are tasting the 2008 Martin Codax Albarino by Rias Baixas in Spain. This bottle made of 100% Albarino grape varietal (Alvarinho in Portugal) was found for under $10. Interestingly, Albarino sold in Australia has been recently found to be Savagnin Blanc.

Color

In the glass this wine is a light golden color between a Sauvignon Blanc and a Chardonnay.

Aroma

On the nose there is strong green apple. Other than that there is a little pear.

Flavor

It is showing a very sweet attack with the apple carrying on from the nose. There is some lime in the mid-palate and grapefruit dominates on the finish. This wine has good acidity. It is crisp and clean, and will pair well with a lot of light food. If you like Sauvignon Blanc, then this is similar in many aspects.

Rating

We like this wine and encourage you to try it. We rate it 88 points
