2008 Mendoza Station Reserva Torrontes

Today I am tasting the 2008 Mendoza Station Reserva Torrontes from Argentina. I found this 100% Torrontes varietal for under $6. Torrontes is a white grape primarily found in Argentina. It is also used in the making of Pisco in Chile.

Color

Very light in the glass. It is similar to a nice Sauvignon Blanc in color.

Aroma

There is nothing shy about this wine with regard to the bouquet. It is extremely floral. The rose petals dominate along with other flowers. I also detect some lemon.

Flavor

The attack presents a little lemon and then the mid-palate is predominately grapefruit. On the palate the rose petals are still strong. There is definitely a presence of residual sugar and not as much acid as other white wines. I think this works well with sweeter dishes such as fruit. It could also work well with spicy dishes.

Rating

I like this wine. If you have a tolerance for floral, fruity, slightly sweet wines, you might enjoy it too. I rate it 85 points.
